Cassie Aker is a second-year master’s student in Psychological Science. After spending the past five years working as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), she decided to pursue a Ph.D. to address the research gaps she encountered in practice. she/her/hers
Marcella-Alysia Argüello is a first year Social Psychology M.A. student. She received her undergraduate degree at Miami University where she double majored in Psychology and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies. Her research interests include intersectional-multicultural studies, gender in a social context (e.g., machismo and marianismo), and marginalized populations such as Latinos and immigrants. She chose BSU because I appreciated its emphasis on inclusive research.
In the future, she hopes to pursue research to expand knowledge within the field to provide sustainable, generalizable findings that could lead to interventions and increased resources for underserved communities. In her free time, she enjoys reading, scrapbooking, and collecting physical media like CDs, movies, and art.

Faelyn Cowan
they/them/theirs
Faelyn comes to Ball State University from Florida, after completing a BA in Psychology and an MA in Women ’ s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of South Florida–where their research focused on how LGBTQ+ people make and manage community spaces, and the implications for those spaces in LGBTQ+ mental health care. They joined the Dual Social Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling program to continue and broaden their research, and to learn how to help those in their community. BSU’ s focus on social justice and the fantastic research are what attracted them to the program, and they're happy to say they're loving it here so far! Outside of academe they're a lover of horror movies, enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes, and are a collector of clown related knick-knacks!

Moving to the U.S. broadened her focus, and she became more interested in how sexual violence intersects with identity, culture, and resilience. In particular, she is passionate about exploring bipositivity, how it challenges stereotypes and prejudice surrounding sexual orientation, and understanding the psychological factors that help people stand up in the face of adversity.

Mascots
A formerly feral tomcat, Reggie was rescued from a rough future as a barn mouse hunter and is now living his best indoor life (with the occasional hang in his cat tent outside). Despite only having four teeth, he’s a champion cuddler who loves to bunny-kick, deliver (mostly gentle) bites, and stir up trouble for his sister, Priscilla. Equal parts mischievous and affectionate, Reggie has a big personality in a small, scrappy package - and he knows it
Ricki Martina Argüello is a 7-year-old orange tabby who hates everyone but Marcella. Her favorite things include crunching on Cheetos, sunbathing, and getting belly rubs—but only at her convenience— even if that means meowing loudly at 4 am for attention. Ricki also tends to hide and not want to be found so she’s on 24/7-hour house arrest for Marcella’s ease of mind (aka there’s an Air Tag attached to her bedazzled collar). Additional names for Ricki include Rick, Rickers, Princessa Linda Bella Mi Amor, My Shayla, and Perro dog
Priscilla is the 11-year-old grande dame of the household, living out her golden years with equal parts dignity and mischief. Her raspy, “pack-a-day” meow perfectly mirrors her personality: gravelly, dramatic, and impossible to ignore. She thrives on being pet while she eats (and will sometimes fake a few bites just to keep the affection coming). Though dignified most of the time, she occasionally indulges her mischievous side with a good carpet scoot, reminding everyone that even seasoned cats still know how to cause a little trouble.
Affectionately known as ‘Violent Violet,’ this girl is a spunky 5-year-old Tuxedo with a penchant for 2 a.m. zoomies while her owner is sleeping, which usually consists of: tearing up and down the stairs, cat-proofing shelves (by pushing everything off of them), and calling for her fellow divas. During the day, her favorite activities include taking naps under sunbeams, knocking over unattended drinks, chasing red dots, and long walks across keyboards. While she is selective about her company, once she approves, she approves. She’ll expect chin scratches and ample time on the couch, and in return, her love is fierce, funny, and just a little bit chaotic.
